Emulsifying Wax Information

bullet Emulsifying Wax - allows mixing of oils and water, for use in handmade toiletries, and is a staple ingredient in lotion making. It creates a stable emulsion without the need for secondary emulsifiers. This wax is mild, provides excellent stability, and is very easy to use. It can be used to make viscous (thick) or thin emulsions, depending upon the concentration at which it is used. Using emulsifying wax requires that the formula be heated to melt the wax and create the Oil/Water bond. Those lotion bases tend to have a wax-like feel due to the wax and often create drag on the skin and pilling after a second application. The viscosity (thickness) in your final product is adjusted by the amount of water and additives you include in your final formulation which might mean it is necessary to do some experimentation. Measure out 5% emulsifying wax and melt with your other solid waxes/oils. It is used at 2-5 % to emulsify oils and water. It is a must have for lotion making. No other emulsification system is needed in combination with this wax. The fatty-acid composition of this wax also lends conditioning properties to your creams and lotions.

bullet Use emulsifying wax to bind together oil and water in creams and lotions, it helps to avoid separation, use at about 2 - 5%.

bullet Cautions - This product is considered a safe ingredient, rarely causes allergic reactions, and is compatible with most animal, vegetable and mineral waxes and a large variety of natural and synthetic resins.
