Niaouli Oil General - Niaouli is an evergreen tree with a flexible truck and spongy bark, pointed linear leaves and bearing spikes of sessile yellowish flowers. The leaves have a strong aromatic scent when they are crushed. Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the leaves and young twigs. Niaouli grows very fast (up to 6' per year) and produces dense stands that completely shade out all other vegetation and provide little food for wildlife. Native to Australia, New Caledonia and the French Pacific Islands. The majority of the oil is produced in Australia.
