It seems that there is a lot of confusion about 'specific gravity' that I thought I would try to enlighten us all.

Specific gravity is the relationship between the weight and the volume of a liquid, with reference to water. Yeah OK. So if one gallon (US) of pure water weighs 8.3 lbs, how much would a gallon of apricot oil weigh, to make it simple lets say the Specific gravity (s.g.) of apricot oil is 0.90, the sum is 1 x 8.3 x 0.9 = 7.47lbs. Or, 1fluid ounce (US) of water weighs 1.0375 ounces (weight), so 16 fl oz of our apricot will weigh 16 x 1.0375 x 0.9 = 14.94 oz

For the metric speakers amongst us, it is even easier, 1L of water weighs 1kg, therefore our 1L of apricot weighs 1 x 0.9 = 0.9kg, therefore 100ml is 100 x 0.9 = 90gms
