Tinctures

    Making Tinctures

The medicinal properties of a herb can be extracted using a mixture of alcohol and water. The alcohol acts as a preservative, making this an excellent way to store herbs out of season. Tinctures will keep up to 12 months if sealed and kept dark and cool.

1. Pack a re-sealable jar tightly with finely chopped herbs.

2. Immerse the herb totally in the vodka/water blend. (refer to the ratios for alcohol/herbs/water. Note: Use 100% proof vodka).

3. Seal the jars and store for 2 weeks, keep away from direct sunlight, shake the jars occasionally

4. Strain the mixture through muslin (cheesecloth) and then filter through an unbleached coffee filter.

5. Pour into a dark glass bottle. Label clearly and store in cool dark place. Use as required.
