Polysorbate 20 is the product chemists use to suspend oils in water-based products. Polysorbate allows you to fully dissolve your essential and fragrance oils into your water-based projects. Basically, oil and water don't mix, unless you add an emulsifier or surfactant like polysorbate 20. Without an additive like polysorbate your oils will eventually separate from the water, ruining your product.. For our purposes, body sprays, body spritzes, room sprays, or any other products that require water to disperse fragrance need polysorbate. Combine equal amounts of your fragrance or essential oil and the Polysorbate 20 until you achieve a clear solution, then, add this mixture to your water or alcohol.
